Fisheries Biologist

Job Description: Alden is seeking a highly motivated person to assist with and lead studies/projects addressing aquatic resource impacts at hydropower dams, steam electric cooling water intakes, and other types of water withdrawals (e.g., desalination intakes, irrigation diversions, and municipal water supplies).  The successful candidate will be involved in projects that include upstream and downstream fish passage evaluations, instream flow assessments, water quality monitoring, and other types of aquatic resource impact studies associated with power production and other water uses.  Responsibilities will include project management, development of study plans, performance of studies (construction of test facilities, testing with a variety of fish species and life stages, and data collection), data analysis, preparation of technical reports, and presentation of study findings at professional conferences and workshops.   

Qualifications: M.S. degree in Fisheries Biology or similar field and 1 to 3 years professional experience, or B.S. degree with 3 to 5 years of experience.  Candidates should be proficient with standard fish sampling and handling methods and have the ability to lead and perform all aspects of scientific studies in lab and field settings.  Experience with telemetry techniques is desirable and the ability to construct, operate, and maintain aquaculture facilities would be beneficial.  Strong statistical analysis, technical writing, and communication skills are required.  Experience with hydropower licensing and Clean Water Act 316(b) studies and compliance is preferred.  Must be able to work independently, as well as cooperatively in a team environment.  Excellent career opportunity with extensive potential for professional growth.
