Ned Taft Receives Lifetime Achievement Honor

Jul 7, 2009 -

The Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) recently honored former Alden Research Laboratory President Ned Taft with a lifetime achievement award. The honor was given in recognition of Taft’s highly successful career and leadership at Alden in developing technology that has reduced environmental impacts at power plants.

“For decades, Ned has provided outstanding leadership and unwavering dedication on the issue of fish protection at cooling water intake structures,” said EPRI’s Bryan Hannegan, Vice President, Environment and Generation. “His hard work at Alden over the last 15 years has led to multiple improvements to technologies, an understanding of how well they perform in multiple applications, and significant reductions in aquatic impacts. He has also championed the development of the Alden/Concepts NREC fish-friendly turbine, which promises to revolutionize the way we protect fish at hydro reservoirs.”

Taft was Alden’s president from 2000 until May of 2009. In addition to a plaque, EPRI presented Taft with a “memories” book in which EPRI and industry colleagues inscribed hand-written notes.

“The electric power industry and the research community owe a tremendous debt of gratitude to Ned and his Alden team,” Hannegan noted. “His presence will be missed, but his legacy will live on at hundreds of power plants in the United States and abroad.”
