Alden Research Laboratory, Inc., a renowned 115 year-old hydraulics and fluid dynamics consulting company is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) engineer within the hydraulic modeling group. The hydraulic modeling group uses both laboratory, scale-model testing and computational fluid dynamics to solve a wide range of both civil and mechanical engineering flow-related problems. The primary customer base is in the electric utility (nuclear, hydroelectric, fossil) and manufacturing/process industries.
The responsibilities of this position include computational project scoping, proposal writing, model generation, problem setup, post-processing, and analysis. A successful candidate will also have creative problem solving skills, particularly in the ability to simplify complex industrial problems so that they are tractable with CFD tools. There will be significant customer interaction responsibilities, making communication skills important.
The desired educational background and experience includes a M.S. or PhD in mechanical or civil engineering with a strong background in computational fluid dynamics , preferably involving large-scale flows with free surfaces. Multi-dimensional sediment modeling a plus, experience with the FLUENT, FLOW-3D, Mike 21 and Mike 21c software packages preferred. US citizenship or permanent residence status required.
This position may have the option to work at Alden’s headquarters in Holden, MA or the Fort Collins, CO office.
