With the escalating attention on renewable energy, spillway performance is increasingly an area of concern for all dam owners and operators. There are two major drivers for this attention on spillways: more stringent flood design requirements and fish passage. Numerical modeling is becoming a common method for optimizing spillway designs, often in conjunction with physical modeling.

MWH, Alden, ANSYS, and Flow Science discussed how to leverage modern computational tools for spillway projects and how to evaluate proposals your organization receives.
