Fish Passage

Upstream fish passage at dams and hydropower facilities ensures that anadromous fish species are able to reach their spawning grounds to reproduce. Downstream fish passage allows the juveniles to travel downstream to grow to adulthood. Commercial fisheries have been severely impacted by dams, and fish passage is increasingly being required by regulatory agencies around the world. Upstream fish passage may take the form of fish ladders or fish elevators, while downstream fish passage may involve a bypass, a fish-friendly turbine, or a capture and transport system.
